"About
Sarah"
Hello,
my name is Sarah and I'm 26 years old. I have been married to my
wonderful husband since July of 2000, and together we have 4
children; Aaron (12/01), Alayna (7/03), Serena (11/05) and Maria (1/08). We live in a rural community in northern Wisconsin,
where nature and adventure are plentiful! My husband is a
correctional officer and I am a stay at home mom, and I'm so
thankful that I can be home with our children. We started
homeschooling the children in the fall of 2007 (Aaron would be in K
this year) and that, along with everything else that goes with being
a busy wife and mom of four children, keeps me busy! But I do get a
lot of time to knit, which brings me to how I began "Adventure
Knits".
I
began knitting in the summer of 2005, when I was pregnant with my
3rd child, Serena. I had fallen in love with wool shorties for my
other two children, and wanted to try my hand at making my own. I
took a few knitting lessons - my first project was shorties for my
daughter Alayna. After making those, I started making longies for
Alayna as the weather was turning cooler, and I realized that I
LOVED knitting!
On
one of my diapering message boards, I asked if anyone would be
interested in trades - my longies for their WAHM product - and I got
a nice response. From that, I gained a lot of wonderful items and I
decided to try selling the longies in the WAHM forum of Diaper
Swappers.
I
became VERY busy! Strangely enough, during this time we didn't have
internet access and I was only able to go online at the library
(thankfully we live blocks away!) or at my mom's. Eventually we did
get the internet, I opened a Hyena Cart store in May of 2006, added
my best friend Cathy to AK in early 2007 ... and here we are, in
2008! We did disconnect the internet again though - so if I appear a
bit slow in replying to an email, it's because I haven't visited the
library yet. ;-) Thank goodness for free wireless internet access
(and yes, the occasional coffee shop visit)!
Thanks
for reading a bit about me, and if you have any questions, feel free
to drop me an email at adventureknits@gmail.com.
:-)

"About Cathy"
Hi,
I'm Cathy! I guess I'm the elder at AK, since I'll be turning
32 this year! I married my high school sweetheart in May of
1996, and together we have 4 beautiful children; Paige (03/95),
Brianna (04/99), Leia (08/05), and Nathan (11/07). Duane is a
flooring contractor, but has been actively looking into ways that he
can work more from home. Leading up to the birth of our
second child, we decided that I would leave my management position
to become a stay-at-home mom. In 2001 we added
homeschooling to the mix, and here we are! After a lot of
moving around, we made our way back to our home-town area in the
sticks of northwestern WI, where we currently live on 40
acres. Since moving to our little homestead we've added
chickens, a pony, some farm cats, and this fall came our first beef
steer. We're excitedly planning what's next!
Here's
a fun story! I met Sarah online. We were both pregnant
with our third child, and I knew she was from WI. I figured it
would be a long shot, but when we decided to move back to Wisconsin
I contacted her to see what part of the state she was from. We
determined that we were in the same area....."the
northwest". I wasn't one who freely gave out information
about us, but I decided to be brave and name the town we were moving
to, adding that "it's a TEENY place that I was sure she had
never even HEARD about". Imagine my surprise when she
responded saying that was the very town that she lived in!
Sarah and her children came to greet us with cookies while we were
working on the house preparing to move in, and we've been friends
ever since =)
I
curiously watched as Sarah told me of her learning to knit -after
all, that's a "grandma thing", isn't it?! It was she
who introduced me to cloth diapers, and she who supplied us with our
first pairs of longies. I fell in love and was soon seeking
her guidance to try to make some of my own! Through lots of
one on one visits, emails, and phone calls I accomplished pair
number one; then came numbers two and three. Soon after I was
making some for trades, and not too long after Sarah invited
me to join her on AK.
It's
been a wonderful adventure =) I've thoroughly enjoyed knitting
for my own babies, as well as for others. I do think that the
many pictures of smiling AK wooly babies that we receive, are by far
the greatest treasure in what we do!
If
you have any questions, or would like me to create a wooly for YOUR
happy baby, simply drop me a note at aklongies@gmail.com
